14 years with the Jewish Community of Cyprus

I was just 26 years old when I applied for the job as secretary to the Chief Rabbi of Cyprus and the Jewish Community Center. I got the job on the spot, starting the next morning. Little did I know that the job entailed far more than the title suggested. Within a couple of weeks of training, I took full control of my post, caring for the community's needs, working closely with the Chief Rabbi, handling accounts, issuing payments, responding to emails and calls from people around the world.

I was always great at multitasking, but this brought everything to another level! I was creating budgets, financial forecasts, creating websites and writing booklets and brochures for funding. I was even arranging funerals for the dearly departed in the community. As the only Jewish community center in Cyprus, the Rabbi and I were the only source to turn.

From these very humble beginnings, we grew and spread out activities, moving into our new home 6 years later.

Now, I am the administrator, with an office staff of 5 and an extended staff of 20.

I am very thankful for all the Jewish Community has taught me. Being a Greek Cypriot born in London, and not being of the Jewish faith, it has been an interesting intercultural exchange. However, now I am ready to move forward with my talents and skills, and hopefully find a new working family.
