Jewish Museum Cyprus
The JMC is by far my favourite project. I am a huge museum buff, so as soon as I was presented with the opportunity, I jumped straight in. Designing the interior and caring for our original WW2 Nissen hut was the humbling and extremely rewarding.
The JMC will be both the first Jewish Museum and the first VR museum on the island. It will comprise of 7 floors of Jewish History, VR, and interactive exhibits, that will show the unique bond that Cyprus has to the Jewish people.
Currently, we have an original WW2 Nissen hut. The Nissen hut is a rare remnant of the British Internment camps in Cyprus.
After WW2 Jews of various nations including Romania, Germany, Poland, and Greece, fled Europe to reach Palestine. The British would stop the ships and bring them back to Cyprus to be interned in the camps of Dhekelia and Karaolos. Over 53000 people were imprisoned and kept until the state of Israel was established. During this time over 2200 babies were born in the camps. There was a camp dedicated to a couple of thousand war orphans who were trying to make their way alone.
Many of the interned went on to become well-known figures, such a moral psychologist, Lawrence Kohlberg, Artist Albert Dov Sigal and singer, Mike Brant.
